Eggeturm observation tower

The Eggeturm observation tower is located on the Eggegebirge ridge, which is part of the Teutoburg Forest. 


The first tower on this site was built as far back as 1849. It was a stone observation tower constructed as part of efforts to develop tourism in the region. It was later rebuilt and renovated several times. Over time, the old structure became outdated and no longer met modern safety standards.


In 2022, the new, modern Eggeturm was opened, but just a year later, a fire broke out, damaging the upper part of the structure. By 2026, the tower had been restored, and the old and new structural elements are clearly visible.


You can reach the tower on foot via various routes, such as from the Waldhotel Silbermühle restaurant. We chose the shortest route, parked here at 51.826944, 8.945444 along the road, and walked up this road at 51.826944, 8.945444.
