Until the 18th century, the village was part of the Principality of Lippe; the inhabitants were engaged in agriculture, forestry and crafts. There was no tourism or medical treatment at that time.
Around 1767, the healing properties of the local water were discovered, and Prince Lippe began to develop the area as a health resort. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the first bathing facilities were built, guesthouses appeared, and the aristocracy and wealthy visitors began to arrive. Bad Meinberg became a small but popular resort of regional importance. The spa park (Kurpark Bad Meinberg) was established in the 19th century and developed alongside the resort.
